"The city that the pirates could die
for"
Phaselis is an important historic site,
located 35 kilometres to Antalya. It is a site of
outstanding beauty that combines forests with turquoise
waters, natural beauties with ancient ruins. With its
three natural harbours and most salubrious air Phaselis
is one of the best-situated ancient towns on the
Mediterranean shore. Alexander the Great was a strong
admirer of this city and spent a whole winter season
here. Now, the beauty of Phaselis is admired by
thousands of visitors each year. Daily tour operators
proudly tell that very often they take more than one
thousand people per day to Phaselis. It was also a very
important harbour and therefore much fought for by the
pirates. Today, visitors from all over the world meet
under the Hadrian’s Gate and unite with the songs of
Mediterranean. They find small but fascinating details
of history of humankind in this Rhodesian colony. |
